It's Monday, it's snowing, and I'm actually happy to be at work!
I found this link on
reddit.com:
“
I’m happy to grow up, but I won’t pretend fun things aren’t still fun out of fear of looking silly.”
Ok, I didn’t laugh hysterically at the comic. But I love the sentiment.
Raising my son in partnership with my wife is a lot of fun, and that involves a
serious amount of growing up.
Why should programming be any different? Business is
almost as serious as nurturing a life. It’s generally considered good form to enjoy parenting. Why shouldn’t we enjoy writing software the exact same way?
Sure, we don’t decide to rewrite an entire business application in
CPS on a whim because it seems like it might be fun to try. Just as we don’t teach our children to eat
Train Cake for every meal.
Let’s not pretend fun things aren’t still fun out of fear of looking silly. Programming is “Grown Up.”
And fun.
